"To be Free, One Must be Chained"

The term, "to be free, one must be chained" means to me that to have freedom, there must be rules set in place. In other words, if there are no rules and regulations for a group of people, 'freedom' no longer has meaning because anything and everything is allowed. It would be impossible for our country to live with no government and no laws as it would lead to complete chaos. Rules or laws are set in place by the government essentially to keep the American people safe. The foundations of American government consist of: the Federalist Papers, the Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence. Every law we have in America comes from the Bill of Rights. And though not all Americans agree with every Amendment, 3/4 of the states have to vote on an Amendment in order for it to become a law. As a US citizen, adults 18 and over have the right to vote and have a say in who runs our country. There will never be such a country where everyone gets along in a perfect union. People will always have different opinions and different views and that will never change. We have rules in place as a country to try our hardest to keep everything in order when people do not agree.
